Raise the stakes! Raise the stakes in life so that there is no choice but to complete the mission. Whether it's a goal, a dream, a fear, raise the stakes to break through the barrier. Let me tell you a lil story...
I remember I was out in Reno, NV for this meditation thing. It was a beast. Not quiet, tea drinking baloney. No, we were here to play at a cosmic level and dive deep. My kind of style. Anyway, I was at the airport waiting for a shuttle to the meditation place and decided I would run to Whole Foods and try to be healthy. So, I caught an airport cab to the store. I got the cabby's number to call him to pick me up in a half hour to take me back to the shuttle. I got my cheese steak (not healthy) and called the cab. No answer. I called him again and again. Then I called all the other cab companies (there were 3). Nothing. Panic. I was stuck at freaking Whole Foods!!! I was going to miss the entire retreat (the shuttle took you to the middle of nowhere, once a week). The stakes were high. What could I do? Oh God not that....I had to ask someone to take me to the airport. A complete stranger. I was frozen. I literally couldn't move. Do I just walk up? Do I offer money? Do I steal a car and deal with the karmic consequences at the retreat? So, I slowly walked up to this one woman. No. Nothing. Pretended not to hear me. Got in her car and drove off. Oh rejection felt really good that day. Second woman, "Hi, my name is Bryce, this is going to sound weird but I took a cab here from the airport and need to get back there but there aren't any cabs, could you drive me back. I'll pay." Her, "do you have any guns on you?" Me, stunned, "umm no, I come from NY and the gun laws are prohibitively strict and this bag has just been screened by the TSA. It's safe." Her, silence, "You're not going to do anything to me." Me, soo many things running through my head "I may hug you at the end if you take me." I laughed. She didn't. Her, silence. Me, (shut up Bryce. Just shut up!). Her, "ok, get in." PRAISE BABY JEEBUS!!!! And off to the airport we drove. She was amazing. She has two sons and works at a custom t-shirt company. Luckily that day I wore my custom "Save the Wales" (pun intended) t-shirt. We had the best 20 minute drive ever.
Anyway, the stakes. I HAD to. I had no other choice. I had nothing to fall back on. But I conquered not only with a ride but with all these other fears. And this is the lamest example of all. Most people are doing it with their lives on the line, and they do it. So, my question to you is what can make the stakes higher for you? What can it be that pushes you to do something you would normally never do but you know you HAVE to? To get there, well, that's where the magic is. It's the next level.
