"Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter, and those who matter don't mind.”
― Bernard M. Baruch
To be yourself. I mean to truly be yourself. Whew! Now that's something. To speak truthfully in every moment. Not from a place of reaction (pain, ego, fear) but a place of truth. It is absolutely terrifying to be myself sometimes. Ohhh it's so easy to be someone else. Bryce the obedient. Bryce the victim. Bryce the clown. Bryce the frightened. Bryce the bland. Bryce the crazy. Bryce the follower. Bryce?
Who is Bryce? I'll tell you who I am: I am a guy who loves people too damn much. And sometimes it hurts. I am a guy who loves performing from his soul. I am a cheerleader for humanity (cheesy, I know). I cry at the end of Pretty Woman. I am an energy worker and I'm damn good at it. I am a guy who can finally say NO. I am a guy who believes in magic. I LOVE BATMAN! I am a guy who hates eggplant, American made cars from the 1980's, poorly made hollandaise sauce, and the song "Love Shack" by the B-52s.
It is terrifying to really strip down to who you are. It can be so painful. You may find out that you aren't really this hard ass like you portray yourself as. You're really a big gush ball who loves hugs and kittens. Or maybe you aren't the sweetest person in the world. Maybe you just want to be dry and tell it like it is. Maybe you hate being an accountant and want to mow cemetery lawns for the rest of your life (the irony).
Who are we? Strip the crap away, get real and find out. Push through that fear. Be vulnerable. It may blow your mind. It's so much better than being a character all the time. Trust me, I know. Don't be afraid. I'm still learning too.
Hi, I'm Bryce Thomas Kennedy and I don't care for the Beatles. Sorry for the years of pretending I enjoyed the White Album. I don't. BOOM!
